Our Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our team at Exponent in the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice. This role will involve providing technical support on existing projects and business development efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans to grow our science and engineering technical services globally in the agricultural and nutrient management arena.
  • Conduct analyses and prepare regulatory documents and expert reports on water resources and land-use activities, including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes.
  • Direct and support the conducting of analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports.
  • Develop and maintain professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies.
  • Work cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Water Resources, Agricultural Science, Ecology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification for Senior Managing Engineer position track.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience.
  • Expert-level knowledge of land-use activities, agricultural science, soil science, crop management, water resources, including irrigation practices, pest management, and nutrient management.
  • Working knowledge of farming practices and strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and the state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues.
  • Proven experience with data analysis and statistics.
  • Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications.
  • Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to agriculture, water quality, and related environmental sciences, as well as experience in addressing domestic animals and proactive and litigation-related matters.
