Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist to join our team in the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice. This role will be based in our Washington, DC office, with opportunities to work in our Alexandria, VA, Bellevue, WA, Maynard, MA, Menlo Park, CA, or Pasadena, CA offices.

About the Role

You will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts. Your expertise will be focused on water resources, agricultural, and nutrient management, including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans to grow our technical services globally in the agricultural and nutrient management arena.
  • Conduct analyses and prepare regulatory documents and expert reports on water resources and land-use activities.
  • Direct and support the conducting of analyses and prepare regulatory documents and expert reports.
  • Develop and maintain professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies.
  • Work cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Water Resources, Agricultural Science, Ecology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification for Senior Managing Engineer position track.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience.
  • Expert-level knowledge of land-use activities, agricultural science, soil science, crop management, water resources, including irrigation practices, pest management, and nutrient management.
  • Working knowledge of farming practices and strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies.
  • Proven experience with data analysis and statistics.
  • Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications.
  • Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to agriculture, water quality, and related environmental sciences.
  • Experience in addressing domestic animals, including cattle, swine, fowl, and aquaculture.
  • Experience in addressing both proactive and litigation-related matters.
