Our Expertise
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist - Water Resources and Agricultural Expert to join our team at Exponent in Washington, DC. This role will be based in our Washington, DC office, with opportunities to work in our Alexandria, VA, Bellevue, WA, Maynard, MA, Menlo Park, CA, or Pasadena, CA offices.
About the Role
This Senior Scientist will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice. Key responsibilities will include:
- Strategic business development and client networking to grow science and engineering technical services globally in the agricultural and nutrient management arena
- Understanding and interpreting water resources and land-use activities, including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes
- Directing and supporting the conducting of analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports
- Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
- Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
- Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in Water Resources, Agricultural Science, Ecology, Engineering, or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification for Senior Managing Engineer position track
- A minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience
- Expert-level knowledge of land-use activities, agricultural science, soil science, crop management, water resources, including irrigation practices, pest management, and nutrient management
- Working knowledge of farming practices and strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and the state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues
- Proven experience with data analysis and statistics
- Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
- Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff
- Experience with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to agriculture, water quality, and related environmental sciences is a plus
