The Department of Otolaryngology - Audiology is actively seeking a full-time Audiology Support Specialist to join our team in Miami, FL. This entry-level role is designed for individuals who will obtain licensure shortly after commencing their responsibilities. The Audiology Support Specialist enhances patient care accessibility by expanding the availability of audiology services, improving productivity by minimizing wait times, and boosting patient satisfaction while reducing costs through the execution of tasks that do not necessitate the expertise of a certified or licensed audiologist. This position assists audiologists in the assessment and rehabilitation of both adult and pediatric patients and collaborates effectively with fellow audiology support staff to ensure an optimal patient experience.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Assist audiologists in conducting audiological assessments and evaluations, ensuring the correct fitting of hearing devices and technology.
2. Prepare examination rooms for patient assessments.
3. Clean and sterilize instruments while adhering to sterile technique principles.
4. Support examinations by preparing necessary supplies and providing instruments and materials to the audiologist as instructed.
5. Maintain precise and comprehensive patient records and documentation.
6. Offer patients basic instructions and information regarding examination procedures.
7. Organize and stock audiology rooms with all necessary supplies daily.
8. Dispose of expired supplies appropriately.
9. Clean and sanitize patient rooms between appointments.
10. Conduct weekly checks on clinic organization and cleanliness, ensuring hand sanitizer dispensers are filled and reporting any cleaning needs.
11. Assist with clerical tasks such as answering phone calls and maintaining administrative records.
12. Comply with University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.
13. Utilize IDX RIS/PACS to monitor patient arrival times and inform front desk personnel of any delays to maintain the daily schedule.
14. Greet patients upon arrival, verify their information, and direct them to the appropriate clinic or audiology room, ensuring they are prepared for their appointment.
15. Document any equipment issues and report them to the relevant management staff.
16. Assist in copying completed patient paperwork, delivering originals to the front desk for scanning, and distributing copies to the appropriate reading rooms.
17. Help distribute patient label stickers within the Audiology department.
18. Conduct daily biological checks of audiological equipment and report any issues to the equipment manufacturer and Practice Manager.
19. Report unusual incidents promptly to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Certification and Licensing:
Audiology Assistant Certification must be completed within the first three months of employment.

Experience:
Experience in a medical environment is preferred.

Department Specific Functions

1. Monitor audiology provider schedules and patient arrivals, notifying providers of arrivals and ready patients promptly.
2. Support the testing of pediatric patients as needed, which may involve direct interaction with children.
3. Assist in transitioning patients from the waiting area to the audiology division.
4. Record case history information for all audiology appointments once certification is obtained.
5. Make decisions regarding clinic flow that prioritize reduced wait times and optimal patient care.
6. Assist audiologists during clinical visits, including ABR, VNG/ENG, hearing aid evaluations, pediatric testing, and otoacoustic emissions testing as required.
7. Collaborate with the audiology licensee on research projects, in-service training, public relations programs, or similar activities as directed.
8. Assist in implementing management or treatment plans developed by the supervising audiology licensee.
9. Test hearing aids to ensure they meet appropriate specifications and performance standards.
10. Demonstrate knowledge of various hearing devices (hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone conduction devices).
11. Show proficiency in the care and use of hearing aid controls, battery insertion, and fitting hearing aids or ear molds.
12. Test equipment to verify compliance with published specifications.
13. Conduct hearing screenings based on established criteria, including newborn hearing screenings.
14. Perform regular inventory checks as directed by the Practice Manager.
15. Prepare and stock patient rooms as instructed by the Practice Manager each morning and evening, which may include powering equipment on/off and restarting computers.
16. Assess for cerumen impaction or infection to determine if a patient requires referral to the ENT department for removal.
17. Determine the availability of audiologists for add-on appointments using the clinical patient schedule and communicate with ENT if necessary.
18. Maintain equipment status records as directed by the Practice Manager.
19. Assist with pediatric appointments as required.
20. Log required items in the monthly ordering sheet as specified by the Practice Manager.
