About the Role:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Office Support Specialist to join our team at Hanger Clinic. As a key member of our front office staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our patient care clinics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Scheduling: Coordinate patient appointments, including scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling appointments as needed.
  • Chart Management: Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date patient charts, including demographic information, medical history, and treatment plans.
  • Document Scanning and Filing: Scan and file patient documents, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately recorded and easily accessible.
  • Phone Management: Manage incoming phone calls, responding to patient inquiries and providing excellent customer service.
  • Insurance Authorization: Obtain and verify insurance authorization for patient treatments.
  • Financial Counseling: Provide financial counseling to patients, including explaining treatment costs and payment options.
  • Document Research: Conduct daily research on electronic health/medical record systems to ensure accurate and up-to-date patient information.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Less than 1 year of customer service, administration, or related experience required.
  • Skills: Strong computer proficiency, excellent communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • EMR Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience with electronic health/medical record systems (preferably NextGen and/or OnBase).
  • Medical Terminology: Working knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology for private payer, state, and federal plans.
  • Associate's Degree: Associate's degree preferred.
  • Typing Speed: Ability to type 40 correct words per minute.
  • Computer and Office Equipment Experience: At least 2 years of experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel), email, and automated billing systems.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; occasionally bend or twist; regularly talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms (to include reaching overhead); and lift up to 25 pounds.
