Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Oncology Research Nurse Navigator to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with our research team to identify clinical trials that would be beneficial to our patient population.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with research team members to identify and facilitate clinical trials for patients.
  • Work with nurse navigators to assess and refer patients for clinical trials, ensuring seamless communication with the Research Department.
  • Review physician schedules and patient charts to pre-screen inclusion criteria for clinical trials.
  • Promote research-based therapies and education to patients and their families.
  • Develop operational flow plans for active research protocols in collaboration with clinical research coordinators.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families throughout the research process.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary cancer care for new research patients within the Cooper Cancer Institute.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, and diagnostic services to expedite the start of participation in research protocols.
  • Explain the role of the nurse navigator to patients and families, triage and forward questions to relevant disciplines.
  • Anticipate patient and family needs, providing supportive information and teaching that incorporates their cultural and spiritual beliefs.
  • Facilitate patient participation and control in clinical decision-making, providing emotional and informational support.
  • Complete related documentation in a timely manner and communicate with the oncology research team on an ongoing basis.
  • Utilize available databases and files in a manner that is understandable and accessible to team members.
Program Development
  • Implement research physician outreach by identifying areas of need, overseeing outreach plans, and analyzing programmatic patient referrals and growth.
  • Work with the Events Coordinator and program physicians to plan and implement Research Community Education Programs.
Multidisciplinary Tumor Board
  • Attend and participate in Disease-Specific Tumor Boards.
  • Follow up and oversee the implementation of research plans agreed upon at tumor boards.
  • Relay agreed-upon research follow-up plans in writing to the multidisciplinary and clinical research teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and conferences, coordinating and ensuring necessary data is available for multidisciplinary cancer team conferences.
Education
  • Work with CCI disciplines to develop, implement, participate in, and evaluate oncology research programs for patients, healthcare professionals, and the community.
  • Act as a liaison with outside research agencies.
  • Develop educational resources for cancer patients and families interested in clinical research.
  • Provide education within the Cooper network and outside the institution as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new research staff and other CCI faculty.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with oncology experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of research experience preferred.
  • Program development experience preferred.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing.
