Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will oversee all facets of machinery upkeep and repairs for concrete paving initiatives. This role necessitates travel, as the selected candidate will accompany a paving crew to fulfill various responsibilities. The ideal candidate should be adept at multitasking and thrive in a dynamic work setting. Availability for night and weekend shifts may be required, along with applicable per diem.


Compensation

The base pay starts at $32, with prevailing wage rates ranging from $40 to $50, depending on the specific job requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols in all daily operations.
  • Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on the first attempt; identify necessary repair parts.
  • Interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to aid in repairs and diagnostics.
  • Resolve complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems.
  • Remove, replace, and repair major components on various types of paving and heavy construction machinery.
  • Conduct routine maintenance services on heavy equipment.
  • Perform on-site repairs in the field as required in a fast-paced environment.
  • Document and log work performed and parts utilized.
  • Engage with equipment operators to evaluate machine performance.
  • Be prepared for occasional weekend and night work.
  • Travel is a requirement for this position.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This role demands a self-driven, professional individual who is a collaborative team player.
  • SWCP compensates at California wage rates and adheres to Davis Bacon regulations when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as random tests.
  • Must clear a Department of Defense background check (No Felonies).
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor, reporting to the site superintendent or project manager when on-site.
  • This is a full-time, permanent position.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with heavy equipment and commercial vehicles is required.
  • Experience with dump trucks and mixers is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
  • Availability to work days, nights, or weekends is necessary.
  • Must possess personal tools.

Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Five years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (preferred).
  • One year of experience as a Truck Mechanic (preferred).
  • Basic welding skills, including stick and wire.
  • Some computer skills, with basic knowledge of third-party CAT and similar software.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic and electric over hydraulic systems.

Licensing

  • ASE Certification (preferred).
  • CDL Certification (preferred).
  • Must obtain a DOT health card (required).
