Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will oversee all facets of machinery upkeep and repairs for concrete paving operations. This role requires the individual to travel alongside a paving crew, providing essential support for various tasks. The ideal candidate should thrive in a dynamic work environment and be capable of handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Availability for night and weekend shifts may be necessary, with per diem provided when applicable.
Compensation
The base pay starts at $32 per hour, with prevailing wage rates ranging from $40 to $50, depending on the specific job requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols in all daily operations.
- Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on the first attempt; identify necessary repair parts.
- Interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to facilitate repairs and diagnostics.
- Address complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems.
- Remove, replace, and repair major components on various types of paving and heavy construction machinery.
- Conduct routine maintenance services on heavy equipment.
- Perform on-site repairs in a fast-paced field environment as required.
- Document and log work performed and parts utilized.
- Communicate effectively with equipment operators to evaluate machine performance.
- Be prepared for occasional weekend and night work.
- Travel is a requirement of this position.
- Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
- This role demands a self-motivated, professional individual who is a team player.
- SWCP offers competitive wages in accordance with California labor laws and Davis Bacon rates when applicable.
Qualifications
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as random tests thereafter.
- Must clear a Department of Defense background check (No Felonies).
- Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor. Reporting to the site superintendent or project manager is expected when on-site.
- This is a full-time, permanent position.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with heavy equipment and commercial vehicles is required.
- Experience with dump trucks and mixers is preferred.
- A clean driving record is essential.
- Flexibility to work days, nights, or weekends is necessary.
- Possession of personal tools is required.
Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- 5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (preferred).
- 1 year of experience as a Truck Mechanic (preferred).
- Basic welding skills, including stick and wire.
- Some computer skills, including basic knowledge of third-party CAT and similar software.
- Strong hydraulic and electric over hydraulic knowledge.
Licensing
- ASE Certification (preferred).
- CDL Certification (preferred).
- Must obtain a DOT health card (required).
