Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will oversee all facets of machinery maintenance and repair for concrete paving operations. This role requires the individual to travel with a paving crew, providing essential support in various tasks. The ideal candidate must be adept at multitasking and thrive in a dynamic work environment, with occasional night and weekend duties as necessary. Per diem will be provided when applicable.


Compensation

The base pay is set at $32 per hour, with a prevailing wage range of $40-50 based on the specific job requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols in all daily operations.
  • Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on the first attempt; identify necessary parts for repairs.
  • Interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to facilitate repairs and diagnostics.
  • Resolve complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems.
  • Execute removal, replacement, and repair of major components on various paving and heavy construction machinery.
  • Conduct routine maintenance services on heavy equipment.
  • Perform on-site repairs in a fast-paced field environment as required.
  • Document and track work completed and parts utilized.
  • Engage with equipment operators to evaluate machine performance.
  • Be prepared for weekend and night work as needed.
  • Travel is a necessary component of this position.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.
  • This role demands a self-motivated, professional individual who is a collaborative team player.
  • SWCP offers competitive wages in accordance with California standards and Davis Bacon rates when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, along with random tests.
  • Must successfully complete a Department of Defense background check (No Felonies).
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor, with reporting to the site superintendent or project manager as necessary.
  • This is a full-time, permanent position.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working on heavy equipment and commercial vehicles is required.
  • Experience with dump trucks and mixers is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, or weekends is required.
  • Possession of personal tools is necessary.

Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic is preferred.
  • 1 year of experience as a Truck Mechanic is preferred.
  • Basic welding skills (stick and wire) are advantageous.
  • Some computer skills, including basic knowledge of third-party CAT and similar software, are beneficial.
  • Strong hydraulic and electric over hydraulic knowledge is preferred.

Licensing

  • ASE Certification is preferred.
  • CDL Certification is preferred.
  • Must obtain a DOT health card (required).
