Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will oversee all facets of machinery maintenance and repair for concrete paving initiatives. This role requires travel alongside a paving crew to support various tasks. The ideal candidate must excel in a dynamic work environment, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Availability for night and weekend shifts may be necessary, with per diem provided when applicable.


Compensation

The base pay starts at $32, with a prevailing wage range of $40-50, contingent upon the specific job requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols in all daily operations.
  • Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on the first attempt; identify necessary parts for repairs.
  • Interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to facilitate repairs and diagnostics.
  • Address complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical challenges.
  • Remove, replace, and repair major components on various types of paving and heavy construction machinery.
  • Conduct routine maintenance services on heavy equipment.
  • Perform on-site repairs in the field as required in a fast-paced setting.
  • Document and log work completed and parts utilized.
  • Collaborate with equipment operators to evaluate machine performance.
  • Travel as needed for job assignments.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
  • Exhibit self-motivation, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Compensation aligns with California wages and Davis Bacon rates when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screenings, as well as random tests.
  • Must successfully complete a Department of Defense background check (no felonies).
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with heavy equipment and commercial vehicles is required.
  • Experience with dump trucks and mixers is preferred.
  • Must possess a clean driving record.
  • Availability to work days, nights, or weekends as needed.
  • Personal tools are required for this position.

Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Five years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (preferred).
  • One year of experience as a Truck Mechanic (preferred).
  • Basic welding skills (stick and wire).
  • Some computer skills, including familiarity with third-party CAT and similar software.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic and electric over hydraulic systems.

Licensing

  • ASE Certification (preferred).
  • CDL Certification (preferred).
  • Must obtain a DOT health card (required).
