Role Summary
This position acts as a vital resource for administrators within Student Life and Engagement (SLE) and serves as a liaison to central Human Resources. The role is responsible for managing and coordinating various human resources activities while interpreting and implementing HR policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. The administrator will oversee HR functions related to attendance, disciplinary actions, leaves of absence, and accommodation requests for a large and complex administrative unit. Additionally, this role involves managing the criminal background check process for employees involved in youth summer camp events and athletic events, which may require evening and weekend hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support labor relations functions, including conducting investigations, handling disciplinary actions, and addressing grievances.
- Provide guidance to staff and resolve complex issues related to HR programs and functions.
- Advise unit administrators on HR policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Compile and analyze HR labor relations data, and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Collaborate with various departments, including MSU HR and MSU Police, to oversee the criminal background check process for events as necessary.
- Coordinate operational activities and perform related administrative tasks as assigned.
- Work with the Accommodation Specialist and SLE supervisors to manage accommodation requests effectively.
Engagement with:
- Administrators/Supervisors - to provide updates, discuss HR management activities, and receive assignments.
- Unit Faculty and Staff - to provide information and advice on HR matters.
- HR Staff and Union Representatives - to discuss disciplinary actions and grievances.
- Volunteer Groups - to facilitate the completion of criminal background checks.
This role is situated in a standard office environment. While it is remote-friendly, attendance at sporting and special events during evenings and weekends is required.
All positions within SLE are classified as critical status. In the event of university closures or emergencies, individuals in this position are expected to make reasonable efforts to report to work as scheduled. If a remote work agreement is in place, employees may be called upon to work on-site to support the MSU community.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge equivalent to that typically acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; three to five years of progressively responsible experience in managing HR functions and labor relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with ICHAT is preferred.
