About the Role

At YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish, we are seeking a dedicated Crisis Advocate to join our team. As a Crisis Advocate, you will play a vital role in providing supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness, helping them identify strengths, assess their needs, and develop action plans to encourage stabilization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a welcoming and safe environment for clients, building trust and professional rapport through empathetic and client-centered approaches.
  • Staff the front desk, welcoming women into the space, monitoring cameras, and responding to callers and visitors.
  • Offer support and encouragement to clients transitioning out of homelessness, assisting them in navigating the social service system.
  • Assist clients in obtaining personal identification, applying for public assistance benefits, enrolling in Medicaid, and connecting them with Employment Specialists at WorkSource.
  • Advocate for clients by connecting with landlords and assisting with housing applications and searches.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed, modeling positive behavior and promoting a supportive community environment.
  • Coordinate group activities and community meetings, ensuring a safe and inclusive space for all clients.
  • Stay up-to-date with internal events, policies, and procedures, monitoring outside activity and ensuring sidewalks are safe and clear.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings, collaborating with Housing Support Specialists and Rapid Rehousing Case Managers to achieve racially equitable outcomes.
Requirements
  • At least two years of direct social service experience, preferably in a shelter setting or working with homeless populations.
  • Ability to work effectively and empathetically with clients who have mental health and chemical-related issues.
  • Must be able to respond in emergency situations, ensuring correct emergency and safety procedures are followed.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, and solve problems, while also working in a team environment and contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Basic level of computer skills, including use of database, word processing, and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office Suite).
