Oncology Infusion Nurse Practitioner
The Oncology Infusion Nurse Practitioner will serve as a healthcare provider within the Infusion Clinic environment, delivering care to patients with oncological conditions.
This role involves collaboration with various Oncology Specialty physician teams to manage the health of adult patients facing diverse cancer-related challenges. The primary focus will be on symptom management for patients undergoing infusion treatments.
Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive physical assessments, gathering and documenting patient data, coordinating authorized diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, ordering and scheduling laboratory tests, prescribing necessary medications, and providing direct patient care services within the infusion clinic.
Required and Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant advanced practice nursing experience.
Experience in an academic medical center is preferred.
Previous experience in Oncology as an APRN or RN is also preferred.
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct clinical services to oncology patients at various treatment stages in collaboration with the oncology physician team.
- Gather patient health histories and perform thorough physical examinations, documenting significant findings in the medical record.
- Order and interpret relevant diagnostic and laboratory tests, clearly explaining the necessity, risks, and benefits of procedures to patients and their families.
- Organize and execute approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient clinical status.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for symptom management in partnership with Oncology Physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
- Utilize prescriptive authority in accordance with state regulations.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions, including emergency measures when necessary.
- Provide patient-centered care through effective communication with patients and their families.
- Incorporate current research and evidence-based practices into clinical decision-making.
- Support clinical research initiatives led by Oncology Physicians.
- Act as a clinical resource and leader for nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
- Engage in professional development through participation in hospital-led initiatives, professional organizations, and continuing education.
- Collaborate with service chiefs, physicians, nursing, and other departments to meet hospital objectives.
- Proactively identify and address issues impacting patient care and community health.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure Requirements:
- Master's degree is required.
- Must possess valid Advanced Practice Nursing Licensure in the state.
- Additional certification in Oncology is preferred.
