Oncology Infusion Nurse Practitioner Role

The Oncology Infusion Nurse Practitioner will serve as a healthcare provider within the Infusion Clinic at U of L Physicians, delivering care to patients undergoing oncology treatment.

This role involves collaboration with various Oncology Specialty physician teams to manage the health of adult patients facing diverse oncological conditions. The primary focus will be on alleviating symptoms for patients receiving infusions in the clinic.

Key responsibilities include conducting physical assessments, gathering and documenting patient data, coordinating approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling lab tests and consultations, prescribing necessary medications, and providing direct patient care within the infusion clinic.

Required and Preferred Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant advanced practice nursing experience.

Experience in an academic medical center is preferred.

Previous experience in Oncology as an APRN or RN is also preferred.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct clinical services to oncology patients at various treatment stages in collaboration with the oncology physician team.
  • Gather comprehensive patient health histories and perform thorough physical examinations, documenting all relevant findings in the medical record.
  • Order and interpret necessary diagnostic and laboratory tests, clearly explaining the rationale, risks, and benefits of procedures to patients and their families.
  • Organize and execute approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient clinical status.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for symptom management in partnership with Oncology Physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Utilize prescriptive authority in accordance with Kentucky state regulations.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions, including emergency measures when necessary.
  • Provide patient-centered care through effective communication with patients and their families.
  • Incorporate current research and evidence-based practices into clinical decision-making and care standards.
  • Support clinical research initiatives led by Oncology Physicians.
  • Act as a clinical leader and resource for nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Engage in professional development through participation in hospital-led initiatives, professional organizations, and continuing education.
  • Collaborate with service chiefs, physicians, nursing, and other departments to meet hospital objectives.
  • Proactively identify and address issues to enhance patient, community, and hospital welfare.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

  • Master's degree in nursing is required.
  • Valid Advanced Practice Nursing Licensure in Kentucky is mandatory.
  • Additional certification in Oncology is preferred.
