Job Overview

Position Summary:

The student employee will deliver technology assistance throughout the campus environment. This role involves collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to resolve various technological issues. Responsibilities will include working in computer labs, media services, and providing support at the information desk, as well as engaging in additional IT projects as required.

Location: Skokie Campus

Employment Duration: Fall semester, with potential for renewal.

Homework Policy: Rarely permitted during work hours.

Available Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:00 am - 10:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Flexibility in Schedule: Work hours may vary based on accepted assignments. Once a schedule is established, adherence is expected with minimal changes.


Key Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes:

- Conduct basic troubleshooting for software and hardware issues (TC)

- Assist patrons at service counters and handle incoming calls (PF)

- Record messages and manage service requests (CM)

- Offer technical support to all users of Oakton's technological resources (CM, TC)

- Provide in-person technology assistance across campus (TW)

- Comply with the college's policies on equity, wellness, and safety (EI)

Candidate Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled at Oakton College with a minimum of 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. Summer employment is available for students enrolled in at least one summer course or those continuing into the Fall semester.
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good academic standing.
  • Completion of introductory computer courses is preferred.
  • Familiarity with common applications such as Microsoft Office and GSuite is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current operating systems and web browsers is preferred.
  • Experience in customer service is preferred.
  • Understanding of audio/visual setups is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are preferred.
  • Video conferencing skills are preferred.
  • Must be friendly, flexible, organized, courteous, and punctual.
  • Availability for some evening and weekend hours is optional.
