Controller Job Description

Cordia Resources by Cherry Bekaert is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government contracting, with experience in financial management, accounting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide insightful reports to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control systems to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Monitor adherence to government accounting standards, including Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to assess compliance and mitigate financial risks.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and optimize liquidity.
  • Develop and implement cash flow forecasting models to support efficient financial operations.
  • Support the Finance Team in developing and implementing financial strategies, goals, and initiatives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations for business planning, investment decisions, and risk management.
  • Conduct financial feasibility studies for new projects and investments.
  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for both domestic and international employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and process improvement within the finance department.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including executives, project managers, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide financial expertise, guidance, and support to cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for financial inquiries and audits.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) and relevant certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) are highly desirable.
  • Five (5) years of previous experience in a finance management role within the DoD industry, with a strong focus on compliance and DCAA Requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of DCMA and DCAA regulations and compliance requirements related to cost accounting, indirect rates, contractual audits, and incurred cost submissions.
  • Knowledge of government accounting standards, including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards (e.g., GAAP), internal controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Cost-Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF) and Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contracts.
  • Proficiency in financial management software such as QuickBooks and ERP systems such as Unanet or comparable systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing finance teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Current active or prior security clearance within the Department of Defense is preferred but not mandatory.
