Job Summary

This role supports ongoing programs that prevent and minimize the consequences of fire, mechanical breakdown, and natural hazard risks at Calpine's natural gas-fired and geothermal energy centers, including battery energy storage sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage third-party property insurance inspections and schedule loss control site visits with inspectors.
  • Review loss control reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with Calpine operations, engineering, and construction personnel to respond to insurer recommendations.
  • Provide internal personnel with reports and analysis on recommendations and trends.
  • Develop corporate-wide recommendation responses to third-party loss control firms and insurers.
  • Prepare underwriting information reports for submission to third-party insurers.
  • Participate in road shows with the Corporate Insurance team.
  • Support the engineering group and plant management with third-party pressure vessel jurisdictional programs.
  • Interact with third-party service providers, insurance, and operations personnel on loss control-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge of major equipment in the Calpine fleet.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on loss control and prevention.
  • Manage property and business interruption claims for the company.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation preferred.
  • Ability to travel significantly throughout the year.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 10+ years in the area of specialization.
  • 5 years of Power Industry experience required.
  • 5 years of Property loss control experience required.
  • 5 years of experience working in the Power Generation segment of the property insurance market.
