Property and Risk Management Specialist

Job Summary:
This position plays a crucial role in supporting Calpine's ongoing programs that prevent and minimize the consequences of fire, mechanical breakdown, and natural hazard risks. The successful candidate will lead the claims process for the property insurance program, ensuring seamless coordination with loss adjusters and plant personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage third-party property insurance inspections at Calpine's natural gas-fired and geothermal energy centers, including battery energy storage sites.
- Schedule and attend loss control site visits with third-party inspectors, reviewing reports for accuracy.
- Work with Calpine operations, engineering, and construction personnel to respond to insurer recommendations.
- Provide internal personnel with reports and analysis on recommendations and trends.
- Develop corporate-wide recommendation responses to third-party loss control firms and insurers.
- Prepare underwriting information reports for submission to third-party insurers.
- Participate in road shows with the Corporate Insurance team as needed.
- Support the engineering group and plant management with third-party pressure vessel jurisdictional programs.
- Interact with third-party service providers, insurance, and operations personnel on loss control-related issues.
- Develop and maintain technical knowledge of Calpine's major equipment, ensuring professional competence and staying up-to-date with industry changes.
- Manage property and business interruption claims for the company, engaging third-party loss adjusters and coordinating activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation preferred (Mechanical ideal).
- Ability to travel significantly throughout the year (approximately 25-30%).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.).
- Typically requires minimum of 10+ years in area of specialization.
- 5 years Power Industry experience required.
- 5 years Property loss control experience required.
- 5 years' experience working in the Power Generation segment of the property insurance market.
- Experience with property and business interruption claims and/or underwriting desired.
