Facilities Maintenance Specialist

Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is a crucial role that reports to the Gardens Maintenance Manager. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess skills in general electrical work, plumbing, HVAC systems, and minor structural repairs. Proficiency in carpentry, painting, and surface restoration is essential. Additionally, a solid understanding of basic vehicle maintenance for the company fleet, which includes trucks, electric and gas carts, diesel tractors, and hydraulic lifts, is required.
Job Classification:
This is a full-time, non-exempt role. The employee may be required to work evenings and/or weekends based on organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of vehicles and equipment under the guidance of the Garden Operations Field Manager, utilizing maintenance logs and work order systems.
- Perform electrical repairs, including the replacement of defective light switches, outlets, and fixtures as per established schedules.
- Handle HVAC maintenance tasks, such as adjusting drive belts and ensuring proper operation of heating and cooling systems.
- Regularly repair and paint both interior and exterior surfaces.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and visitors, including emergency situations.
- Carry out inspections of the fleet, lighting, and HVAC systems as assigned.
- Assist with safety inspections as outlined in the safety plan.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Adhere to safety protocols, utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Follow the Code of Safe Practices to ensure the safety of all personnel.
- Operate vehicles and motorized equipment for maintenance tasks in accordance with safety requirements.
- Utilize inventory systems to request necessary supplies and equipment.
- Perform basic carpentry and assist in construction projects.
- Engage in team meetings to discuss project expectations.
- Participate in safety training sessions.
- Deliver excellent customer service while interacting with visitors.
Equipment Utilized:
Computer, printer, phone, tractors, bobcats, vehicles, gardening tools, and various manual and power tools.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of experience in general building maintenance or in one or more of the standard building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, welding, vehicle repair, and painting.
- Ability to quickly assess situations and make sound decisions in both routine and emergency scenarios.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Valid Class C California Driver's License.
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the job, as outlined below.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position include the ability to walk, kneel, bend, sit, crouch, drive vehicles, and climb ladders. Occasional exposure to water and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. are required. The role may involve working in various noise levels and both indoor and outdoor environments.
