Job Overview

Position Title: Maintenance Technician

This role is under the direct supervision of the Gardens Maintenance Manager. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for a wide range of tasks associated with the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and vehicles. The position demands proficiency in general electrical work, plumbing, HVAC systems, and minor structural repairs. Skills in carpentry, painting, and surface restoration are essential. Additionally, the Maintenance Technician should possess a fundamental understanding of basic vehicle repair and maintenance for the company’s fleet, which includes trucks, electric and gas carts, diesel tractors, skid steers, hydraulic lifts, and a children's amusement train.


Position Classification:

This is a full-time, non-exempt role. The employee may be required to work evenings and/or weekends based on organizational needs.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts routine inspections and maintenance of vehicles and the amusement train, utilizing maintenance logs and a work order system. This encompasses regular scheduled maintenance, tire repairs, vehicle lighting repairs, battery replacements, and cleaning.
  • Executes general electrical repairs and maintenance, including the replacement of defective light switches, sockets, outlets, bulbs, fixtures, and fluorescent tubes, according to established schedules and work orders.
  • Performs HVAC repairs and maintenance, which includes replacing or adjusting drive belts, maintaining and adjusting motors, pumps, and compressors, and lubricating heating, cooling, or ventilation systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Regularly repairs and paints both interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Responds promptly and effectively to maintenance requests from staff and visitors, including emergency situations.
  • Conducts regular inspections of the fleet, amusement train, and lighting systems as assigned.
  • Assists with safety inspections as outlined in the organization's safety plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Works safely, utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Maintains work areas, tools, and equipment in optimal condition to prevent injuries.
  • Follows the Code of Safe Practices while performing job duties, ensuring the safety of staff and visitors, and reporting any hazards as necessary.
  • Operates vehicles and/or motorized equipment to perform maintenance tasks at various locations in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Utilizes the inventory and purchase order system to request necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Replaces glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
  • Completes basic carpentry tasks and assists in construction projects.
  • Participates in team meetings to discuss projects and expectations.
  • Engages in safety training sessions.
  • Delivers excellent customer service while interacting with visitors in public areas.

Equipment Utilized:

Computer, printer, phone, tractor, bobcat, replica diesel train, golf cart, gardening tools, irrigation equipment, two-way radio, and various manual and power tools.


Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum of two years of experience and strong knowledge in general building maintenance or in one or more of the standard building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, welding, vehicle repair, and painting.
  • Ability to quickly assess situations, make decisions, and exercise sound judgment in both routine and emergency scenarios.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey information to diverse audiences and read/write technical documents.
  • Valid Class C California Driver's License.
  • Ability to meet various physical demands associated with the role.
