Position Overview:

The Senior Optical Testing Engineer is a proactive contributor, collaborating with engineering teams at Samtec to design and implement optical product testing solutions for high-volume manufacturing.

This role involves planning and executing the test development activities for assigned projects.

The engineer will ensure that product test specifications are well-defined, create strategies to meet these specifications, and assist in the roadmap development for ongoing enhancements.

The Senior Optical Testing Engineer serves as the primary liaison for other teams regarding test development initiatives until a manufacturable solution is transitioned to production, and will continue to provide support for ongoing production as necessary.


Key Responsibilities:
Develop DC, RF, and other Optical testing systems, providing operational procedures essential for transitioning these stations from low volume to high volume work environments.

Assist in formulating technical roadmaps for new product test development, identifying potential risks associated with various roadmap options, and summarizing the pros and cons.

Ensure that test station capability and qualification plans are executed and documented as modifications or upgrades are made.
Define test project objectives, risks, costs/resources, timelines, and potential solutions.
Summarize test project outcomes, including impacts on product yield, quality, throughput, and cost.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Designers, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support new product introductions.
Create, conduct, and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE) for development and production activities.
Streamline data collection, storage, and access to minimize the effort required to generate necessary reports.
Maintain and enhance processes for electrical testing associated with Samtec's product range.
Conduct audits, benchmarking, and drive best practice methodologies to proactively prevent quality issues as technology scales.
Supervisory responsibilities for Engineers or Technicians may be required.

Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in microelectronics, microsystems, or optical design or manufacturing.
Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other engineering design, modeling, or simulation software is preferred.

Demonstrated hands-on experience with test development projects and high-volume manufacturing, grounded in a thorough understanding of the equipment and materials utilized in the semiconductor and photonics sectors.

Experience with PAM4 testing is highly desirable.
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of statistics, process control, and FMEA methodologies.
Experience in writing test specifications, reports, and production documentation is essential.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for effective interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in Minitab/SAS-JMP or similar data analysis software, along with expected proficiency in MS Office.

Preferred Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or the Physical Sciences from an accredited institution.
