Role Overview:

Animal Caretakers play a crucial role in providing training for animal handling and husbandry, as well as assisting in the organization of mission schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare and maintain animal husbandry equipment and supplies, ensuring proper sanitation and sterilization.

- Manage the processing of animal feed, bedding materials, and supplies, while preparing and administering diets and sterile water.

- Conduct quality control measures, including maintaining logs and providing samples of sterile feed and water.

- Operate various facility equipment, including cage rack washers and sterilizers, while performing routine maintenance as needed.

- Gather and prepare supplies and equipment for research activities.

- Handle animals during various procedures, including relocation, feeding, and health checks, while maintaining a daily health log.

- Oversee inventory management of supplies and equipment, performing monthly checks and communicating replenishment needs.

- Assist contractor personnel and scientific clients with facility access and sanitation protocols.

- Maintain cleanroom conditions and perform microbial sampling as required.

- Conduct weekly safety inspections.

- Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Requires a minimum of a high school diploma along with one year of experience in a laboratory animal environment or related animal care experience.

- Must be able to pass a physical examination for primary animal contact.

- Understanding of ethical considerations in the care and use of research animals is essential.

- Ability to wear cleanroom attire for extended periods is required.

- Physical demands include climbing, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

- Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment as necessary.

- Position involves working in proximity to hazardous areas; quick evacuation may be necessary in emergencies.

- Must be able to navigate uneven terrain and work in varying temperature conditions.

- Exposure to animal odors and allergens is expected.

- Basic proficiency with standard office equipment is required.

- Dependability and punctuality are crucial, including the ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment:

- Position requires working both indoors and outdoors across the facility.

- Daily travel to different areas on site may be necessary.

- All tasks must be performed in compliance with safety standards.

Additional Functions:
