Job Summary:

The Financial Counselor 2-ED plays a vital role in assisting patients navigating the financial process from admission to discharge in our Emergency or Advanced Urgent Care departments. This position contributes to all functions of the financial office, serving as a resource to colleagues and ensuring seamless communication with payers, primary care physicians, and RN service coordinators.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Verify patient benefits, eligibility, and facilitate authorization from payers and medical groups.
  • Obtain necessary documentation to support authorization requests.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with payers, primary care physicians, and RN service coordinators as needed.
  • Create and execute financial contracts with patients and payers for both Loma Linda University Medical Center facility and LLUHC professional services according to LLUMC policy.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum three years customer service experience required; preferably in hospital-based registration, physician's office, Medical Group registration specializing in Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and/or California Children's Services.
  • Experience with Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations preferred.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Excellent Customer Service skills required.
  • Able to write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; deliver the highest level of customer service to all patients, family, internal and external customers.
  • Use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to position (e.g., Microsoft applications, patient accounting, registration and insurance eligibility applications).
  • Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the job.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; relate positively, effectively and professionally with others.
