Primary Purpose :


The Exercise Specialist is accountable for evaluating, designing, and executing fitness initiatives and protocols aimed at enhancing cardiovascular health, body composition, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility for ARUP employees and their families.

Essential Functions :
1. Develops personalized exercise regimens for individuals based on their unique needs, objectives, and health conditions.

2. Instructs individuals on correct exercise techniques, form, and execution.

3. Monitors and modifies exercise plans to ensure progress, prevent injuries, and enhance proprioception.

4. Conducts fitness assessments for individuals and departments.

5. Engages in outreach efforts to promote reduced workplace injuries.

6. Facilitates small group exercise sessions, injury prevention workshops, and programs aimed at improving fitness and physical functionality.

7. Designs exercise physiology-based protocols, curricula, and resources to support movement, injury prevention, corrective exercise, and workplace safety.

8. Manages equipment requests, updates, and maintenance for on-site fitness facilities.

9. Conducts audits of all ARUP gym locations to ensure safety, quality, and maintenance standards are upheld.

10. Innovates exercise programming, testing, and procedures to enhance current offerings.

11. Understands the prevention and identification of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency protocols, and the professional responsibilities of exercise specialists.

12. Assists the Wellness Supervisor with patient referrals for physical therapy and related issues.

13. Supports additional Health and Wellness initiatives as needed.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical and Other Requirements :

Stooping:
Bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.

Reaching:
Extending hands and arms in any direction.

Mobility:

The individual in this role may need to move between various work sites and within the office to access files and equipment.


Communication:
Frequently and effectively communicate with others.

PPE:

The role is situated in a biohazard laboratory environment, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment in compliance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.


ARUP Policies and Procedures:
Conduct oneself in accordance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Medium Work:

Requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Fine Motor Control:
Involves tasks such as picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand.

Qualifications

Education

Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Exercise and Sport Science

Master's Degree or higher in Exercise and Sport Science

Licenses & Certifications

Required:
CPR Certification

Preferred:
Personal Trainer Certification

Experience

Required:
Master's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, exercise physiology, or a related health field OR currently enrolled in the final semester of a Master's degree program OR Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, exercise physiology, or a related health field with two (2) years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma, CPT (Certified Personal Trainer through ACSM) with five (5) years of relevant experience.

AED/CPR Certified

Preferred:
CSCS, CSPS Certification or similar credentials

Experience leading group fitness classes

Experience with workplace safety, injury prevention, and corrective exercise programming
