Job Description

Role Summary:

The Field Engineer/Welding Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of construction activities on a large-scale nuclear project. This will involve performing surveillance and inspections to verify that works are carried out in accordance with the contract and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular surveillance and inspections to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Identify and report any non-conformities or potential quality issues
  • Collaborate with the Construction Superintendent and other site teams to ensure effective communication and coordination
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of construction drawings, quality control plans, and inspection records
  • Review contractor performance against authorized quality control plans

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Welding Inspector qualification (e.g. CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent)
  • Basic appreciation of NDT qualification
  • Experience in large power plant design, manufacture, and construction
  • Good working knowledge of quality management practices, methods, and processes
  • Knowledge of fabrication and installation of pressure systems

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Higher level qualifications in welding (CSWIP 3.2, IWS etc.) and NDT (PCN or equivalent)
  • Experience in structural steel, welded pre-fabrication of reinforcement cages, and civil/mechanical interfaces
  • Good knowledge of pipework, tanks/vessels, steelwork, heat exchangers
  • Experience in punchlist checks and QA/QC

Working Environment:

The role is 75% site-based and 25% office-based. The Field Engineer/Welding Inspector will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards.

Security Clearance:

Applicants will be required to meet certain criteria to attain a minimum level of UK BPSS security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum BPSS level.
