As a key member of the Regional Security Services team, the Security Operations Supervisor is a seasoned leader responsible for overseeing a group of Healthcare Protection Officers (HPO) within a prominent healthcare organization.
The Supervisor will guide the HPO team in their essential mission of safeguarding patients, visitors, and staff from threats and unlawful activities.
In addition to this primary focus, the Security Operations Supervisor will undertake professional and managerial responsibilities related to the Healthcare Protection Officer (HPO) and Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Protective Services Management
Oversees the daily functions of the HPO program for a designated market or medical facility, ensuring operational efficiency, problem-solving, staffing, scheduling, supervision, and training.
Accountable for delivering high-quality, professional security services to protect patients, staff, physicians, visitors, property, and facilities from crime, disruptive behavior, and workplace violence.
Provides leadership, guidance, and support to assigned HPO personnel and resources.When necessary, the Supervisor will assume the role of a Healthcare Protection Officer (HPO), responding to security incidents and addressing workplace violence.
Workplace Violence Prevention and Threat ManagementThe Supervisor aids in preventing, investigating, and effectively resolving security threats and incidents of workplace violence. Collaborating with site security management, the Supervisor ensures seamless coordination on all security-related matters.
The Supervisor manages the assigned Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) programs, offering Threat Assessment and Management (TAM) support to the service area or site Threat Management Team (TMT).
Compensation:
$114,406 annually
Responsibilities/Duties
Healthcare Protection Officer Program
Directs, leads, and manages HPOs to promote effective performance and deliver outstanding service. Coaches and mentors staff to ensure successful job performance and collaboration with others.
Reviews incident reports, investigations, and related documents for accuracy before submission; organizes and leads regular HPO meetings; prepares rosters and schedules for operations, managing shift changes, days off, sick leave, PTO, and training time; ensures adequate coverage for assigned shifts; verifies completion of training requirements.
Effectively communicates and supports local and system leadership decisions and initiatives, assisting staff in adapting to changes through communication, education, problem-solving, and by setting a positive example.
Workplace Violence Prevention Program
Manages the PWV program at assigned service areas or sites.
Ensures proper investigation and documentation of workplace violence incidents.
Works with HPOs to implement PWV mitigation strategies, communication tools, and workflow processes, including the development of safety and security plans for individuals identified as high risk for violent behavior.
Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
Threat Management
Manages and/or supports investigations and classification of threats against staff, patients, or facilities.
As directed, leads the TMT at the site level.
Program Management
Develops, scopes, sequences, and tracks major programs, often with regulatory requirements.
Tracks incident reporting metrics that drive departmental goals and contribute to change management strategies.
Public Speaking/Training/Education
Ensures compliance with federal and state security and risk regulations, including Joint Commission, CMS, HIPAA, and other state laws related to healthcare security; adheres to the organization's security services-related policies and procedures.
Fosters a culture of execution, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team.
Collaborates effectively and contributes to a cooperative climate across the department.
Works efficiently in a consensus-driven, values-based organization.
Required Skills
Proven success in a highly regulated work environment.
Demonstrated security leadership in a healthcare setting.
Experience in training delivery, teaching, and curriculum development.
Knowledgeable of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and mitigating security risks and workplace violence in diverse environments.
Exhibits a high level of integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and respond to changing demands from multiple sources in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in project management.
Database management experience.
Proficient in PC applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Required Experience
5+ years of experience in security, military, or law enforcement.
3+ years of experience in healthcare security leadership.
Preferred Education
Degree in Security Management, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
Preferred Experience
Bachelor's degree.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED.
Required Qualifications
Ability to pass a physical aptitude test (PAT), which may include timed push-ups, sit-ups, physical agility assessment, and a life-sized dummy drag.
California Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS) Guard Card.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
Professional Certified Investigator (PCI).
