Job Overview:

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is in search of a skilled Information Security Specialist to take on a crucial role in safeguarding the organization's data systems and networks against cyber threats.

The chosen candidate will be tasked with monitoring, identifying, investigating, analyzing, and responding to security incidents to uphold the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our information and systems.

Additionally, this role involves close collaboration with various teams to formulate and execute proactive security strategies, policies, and procedures.

SDL engages in a multitude of missions, including supporting NASA's vision to uncover the unknown for the benefit of humanity and the Department of Defense's objective to ensure national security across all domains.

Our advanced sensors, satellites, software solutions, and engineering capabilities play a vital role in significant missions, both recognized and unrecognized.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of security documentation, including incident response plans, security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Configure and monitor security events and alerts from various sources, including SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, honeypots, and EDR systems.
  • Investigate and analyze security incidents to determine root causes, scope, and impact, and devise appropriate response strategies.
  • Participate in vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits.
  • Create and maintain cyber playbooks and runbooks.
  • Collaborate with various IT teams to implement security controls, patches, and configurations to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Stay informed about emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies through continuous learning and research.
  • Engage in incident response tabletop exercises.
  • Conduct red and blue team exercises.

Required Qualifications:
  • 6 years of IT experience with a solid understanding of cybersecurity, including proven experience in security operations (SOC), incident response, threat hunting, and analysis.
  • Strong grasp of networking protocols, OSI model, operating systems, security technologies, and best practices.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze results from cyber tools and scanners, implementing necessary corrections, modifications, mitigations, and enhancements.
  • Hands-on experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, deception, and vulnerability scanning tools.
  • Capability to analyze various cyber attacks and assess their impact.
  • Familiarity with cyber control frameworks such as NIST, NIST 800-53, etc.
  • Willingness to respond to incidents outside of regular business hours as required.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to perform well under pressure.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Security+, CEH, CASP+, CISSP, or GIAC certifications.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, etc.).
  • Understanding of both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, especially during critical incidents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Active Security Clearance.
