POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Accessibility Support Specialist III is crucial in offering vital assistance to individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or Hard-of-Hearing. This position ensures that these individuals can access community resources and maintain their independence. Responsibilities include conveying visual and environmental information that may not be readily accessible to the individual. The specialist will also provide travel assistance, including human guide support and transportation, to facilitate safe community access. This role may involve operating agency vehicles or personal vehicles for work-related purposes. The position can be demanding and may occasionally require high performance under stress. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation, Social Work, Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Psychology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard-of-Hearing, Blind, or Low Vision.
  • Proficiency in sign language, including American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, and/or English, as well as knowledge of Braille and other communication methods used by individuals who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing.
  • Capability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally.
  • Basic computer literacy and typing skills.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and an FBI National Criminal Records History Report.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in providing services to individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or Hard-of-Hearing.
  • Experience in supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and devices that aid individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard-of-Hearing, Blind, or Low Vision.
  • Knowledge of Braille, both contracted and uncontracted.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Ability to communicate using the preferred communication systems of individuals who are Deaf-Blind.
  • Proficiency in Signed English and Tactile ASL.
