Job Overview

Hart Energy, a leading provider of energy industry news, data, and events, is seeking a seasoned Assistant Controller to join its team.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and management skills, with a deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). They will be responsible for leading the month-end process, preparing full financial statements, and managing all aspects of financial operations.

Ongoing responsibilities include:

  • Leading the month-end process through full financial statement preparation.
  • Completing month-end true-ups, accruals, depreciation, and amortization, ensuring timely and accurate monthly closing.
  • Managing all functions related to receivables, payables, G/L, inter-company accounts, and assisting the treasury department with bank balances and cash management.
  • Developing, reviewing, and posting general journal entries.
  • Preparing daily and monthly financial reports/statements and maintaining a full set of accounts, general ledgers, and journals according to US GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Interpreting operating results and making specific recommendations to improve cost reduction and profit.
  • Participating in other accounting processes as necessary.
  • Developing, reviewing, and approving all balance sheet reconciliations.

Requirements and qualifications include:

  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and experience with Sage Intacct Accounting System or similar mid-market system.
  • At least 6 years of progressive career development.
  • Previous experience in public accounting, private, or private equity-backed organizations is a plus.
  • Prior supervisory experience and well-developed leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail and deadline-driven.

This is not a remote position, and the candidate must reside in the Houston or surrounding area.
