Job Summary:

The Virtual Controller is responsible for monitoring and controlling Natural Gas and NGL through pipelines consistent with system capabilities, operating characteristics and conditions, and in accordance with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating valves remotely, analyzes changing conditions and alarms and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Monitors pipeline integrity and tank storage levels to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Participates in planning, scheduling, and implementing facility operations, shutdowns, and start-ups.
  • Executes the daily operating plan, at the direction of the Control Center Management, to assure daily scheduled receipts and deliveries are met within DOT and tariff standards, while optimizing compression equipment usage and maintaining safe operations.
  • Operates and controls the flow of product through pipelines from the Summit Operations Control Center (SOCC) utilizing a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Documents all relevant operational information in the Event Logger during the shift.
  • Communicates operating plan and system status as part of shift change-over briefing.
  • Reacts to abnormal and emergency operating conditions, dispatches field personnel, and/or takes necessary action to resolve said condition.
  • Recommends operating improvements and dispatches field personnel to problem areas for a system of pipe.
  • Monitors flows, pressures, and qualities across the system and responds to SCADA system alarms to provide safe and reliable service.
  • Assists in the execution of adjustments to pipeline flows to best meet current and anticipated customer demands.
  • Mitigates impacts of planned and unplanned facility outages.
  • Interfaces with schedulers and maintains collaborative inter-departmental and cross-functional working relationships with all members of the department and with both office and field employees.
  • Maintains proactive communication with Control Center Management and keep them informed of the operational status of the pipeline system.
  • Completes Operator Qualification Training as required by Company and DOT regulations.

Requirements:

  • Work experience with a natural gas gathering and transmission system.
  • At least 2 years prior control center experience in the pipeline or oil industry; related work experience may include field technician, meter inspector, station operator, controls technician, and other pipeline and mechanical work.
  • Basic Knowledge of pipeline operations, including station operations and pipeline hydraulics.
  • Prior control center experience in the pipeline or natural gas / oil industry including ability to hold effective conversations with other Controllers, Management, Schedulers, Field Operators, and other constituents.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations and effectively manage operations occurring simultaneously on different pipelines.
  • Possess organization and planning skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Must have a moderate level of proficiency with typical industry software, i.e., Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, which includes holidays, weekends, night shifts and overtime with minimal time away from console during shift.
