Job Overview

As a Cannon Artillery Technician in the Army National Guard, you will be part of a unit that guarantees the U.S. maintains its tactical advantage on the battlefield. Your role involves delivering impactful strikes against adversaries utilizing howitzers and mastering advanced cannon artillery systems, along with artillery tactics and strategies.

Responsibilities

As you enhance your skills, your responsibilities will expand. Experienced Technicians will oversee other team members in the management of ammunition distribution and will be accountable for cannon operations, training, and maintenance.

Key Duties

• Conducting wire and radio communications
• Identifying target locations
• Setting, loading, and firing artillery
• Utilizing technology to generate fire direction data
• Operating heavy and light wheeled trucks and tracked vehicles
• Transporting and managing artillery ammunition
• Ensuring operational readiness of vehicles and equipment
• Participating in reconnaissance missions

Compensation and Training
Instead of incurring costs to acquire these skills, you will earn a salary while you train. In the Army National Guard, you will acquire these essential job skills while receiving a regular paycheck and qualifying for educational assistance.

Training for a Cannon Artillery Technician involves 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills. Following this, you will attend Advanced Individual Training (AIT), which includes seven weeks of specialized training. This training consists of both classroom instruction and field exercises under simulated combat conditions.

Requirements
  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Must be at least a junior in high school, or possess a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Age range between 17 and 35
  • Must pass a physical examination and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must fulfill citizenship requirements
