DeKalb County is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Refuse Collection Specialist to join our team.

Hourly Salary: $17.00

Purpose of Classification:

The primary function of this classification is to perform manual labor associated with collecting refuse along an assigned route, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our community.

This classification requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow established safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collects refuse along assigned routes, utilizing a rear-loading sanitation truck and other equipment as needed;

- Retrieves trash bins, containers, or bags from along routes, empties contents into the truck, and returns bins to their proper place;

- Performs manual labor in support of other County operations, lifting, moving, loading, and unloading materials, equipment, tools, furniture, and supplies;

- Assists in setting up special events and activities, installs holiday decorations, and assists with cleanup after events;

- Follows established safety procedures, monitors work environment, and reports incidents or problems;

- Operates various machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, including but not limited to service trucks, pumps, probing rods, tampers, jack hammers, lawn mowers, and hand tools.

Requirements:

- High school diploma or GED preferred;

- Previous work experience involving equipment operation or construction/maintenance work preferred;

- Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in varying weather conditions;

- Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
