Job Summary:

The Sanitation Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of DeKalb County. This position involves collecting refuse along assigned routes, operating rear-loading sanitation trucks, and performing manual labor in support of other County operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collects refuse along assigned routes, retrieves trash bins and containers, and empties them into the truck.
  • Operates container arm, lift, and compactor mechanisms as needed.
  • Performs manual labor in support of other County operations, including lifting, moving, loading, and unloading materials, equipment, tools, furniture, and supplies.
  • Assists in setting up special events/activities, installs holiday decorations, and assists with traffic control during events.
  • Follows established safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous work experience involving equipment operation or construction/maintenance work preferred.

Working Conditions:

This position is safety sensitive and subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.

The Sanitation Worker will be required to work in various weather conditions and may be exposed to physical hazards. The ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods is essential for this role.
