Job Overview

PRIMARY ROLE:

The individual in this position is tasked with supporting both clinical and administrative functions within the healthcare unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitates patient care by updating medical records to include medications and allergies, measuring vital signs, preparing and maintaining examination areas, and conducting various medical tests (EKG/orthostatic BP) along with phlebotomy tasks.
  2. Prepares patients for examinations and assists healthcare providers and nursing staff during procedures related to direct patient care.
  3. Collaborates with care teams to ensure patient records are precise, current, and documented correctly. Actively reviews patient lists to stay informed of updates and notifies the care team of any changes.
  4. Collects relevant clinical information from patients and accurately enters data into the electronic health record system. Aids in scheduling and monitoring patient appointments.
  5. Ensures a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and their families, adhering to the standards of the organization. Emphasizes effective communication both in person and via phone.
  6. Handles general inventory and administrative tasks within the medical office.
  7. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness, organization, and stocking of materials to ensure a sanitary environment for patient care delivery.
  8. Encourages a collaborative and supportive workplace atmosphere to provide high-quality services to patients.
  9. Delivers culturally competent care to patients of all ages and manages all necessary communications related to patient care, both incoming and outgoing.
  10. Engages in and promotes Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) guidelines and procedures. Responsible for all electronic health record functions and tasks required for patient care.
  11. Participates in mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
  12. Records all patient interactions and care in compliance with the Privacy Act of 1974.
  13. Adheres to the policies and procedures of the department and the organization.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient service abilities.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Physical stamina to remain on feet for extended periods.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold and maintain a valid Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA/CMA/RMA).
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience is required.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient healthcare setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health is preferred.
