Research Laboratory Manager

This position is responsible for helping run the experimental and administrative requirements of a research laboratory. The selected individual will work directly with the Principal Investigator to establish and efficiently run the biomedical research lab. The candidate will be involved in a number of projects and will be integral for the everyday running of the lab by completing a host of tasks and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
The Lab Manager will be responsible for performing a diverse array of molecular biology, biochemical, and mouse genetics experimental research. They will also provide the general daily, weekly, monthly lab management required to keep the research laboratory running efficiently. This includes maintaining chemical and hazardous agent inventory, preparing and maintaining IACUC protocols, and ensuring lab compliance with Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry. They will also have previous experience as part of a research team in an academic setting, with a strong background in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and mouse husbandry. Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work as part of a team and acquire new skills when needed.
Work Interactions
The role of Lab Manager will be essential to the generation of data and running of the lab, which will affect the productivity of federally funded research projects in the lab and the ability to acquire further external funding for the lab and the university as a whole. The candidate will be involved in a number of projects and will be integral for the everyday running of the lab by completing a host of tasks and responsibilities.
Compliance Management
The Lab Manager will be responsible for maintaining chemical and hazardous agent inventory, preparing and maintaining IACUC protocols, and ensuring lab compliance with Environmental Health and Safety requirements. They will also assist with training junior lab members in routine protocols and assisting in all organizational aspects of the laboratory per university policies and procedures.
