Research Laboratory Manager

This position is responsible for assisting in the management of an 8-10-person research laboratory. The selected individual will work directly with the Principal Investigator to establish and efficiently run the laboratory. The candidate will be involved in a number of projects and will be integral for the everyday running of the lab by completing a host of tasks and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
The Lab Manager will be responsible for performing a diverse array of molecular biology, biochemical, and mouse genetics experimental research. They will also provide the general daily, weekly, and monthly lab management required to keep the laboratory running efficiently. The candidate will work independently to manage daily affairs of the research laboratory, design and perform routine and complex laboratory research experiments, and receive instruction and mentorship from the Principal Investigator.
Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry. Previous experience as part of a research team in an academic setting is preferred, as well as experience in basic molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and mouse husbandry and genetics. The candidate must also have excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team and acquire new skills when needed.
Work Interactions
The role of Lab Manager will be essential to the generation of data and running of the lab, which will affect the productivity of federally funded research projects in the Lab and the ability to acquire further external funding for the lab and GUMC as a whole. The candidate will be involved in a number of projects and will be integral for the everyday running of the lab by completing a host of tasks and responsibilities, and report directly to the PI of the lab.
Compliance Management
The Lab Manager will be responsible for preparing and maintaining IACUC protocols and assuring lab compliance with these. They will also maintain chemical and hazardous agent inventory and assure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety requirements for management of the laboratory.
