The Southwest Research Institute's Department of Space Instruments & Payloads is a diverse group of professionals including engineers, scientists, program managers, and technicians dedicated to the design and development of cutting-edge instruments and avionics for various space missions. Our projects span from Lunar Lander initiatives to deep space explorations, commercial spacecraft, and ground-based observatories.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Development: Create digital and/or analog circuit boards tailored for space applications, encompassing requirements development, block diagrams, and schematic capture.
  • Analysis and Testing: Conduct or assist in the analysis of circuit boards, including parts stress derating, timing analysis, and worst-case circuit analysis.
  • Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation for the fabrication, assembly, and testing of electronic boards.
  • Integration Support: Assist in integration and testing at subsequent assembly levels and through delivery, which may involve travel to client locations.
  • FPGA Design: Experience in designing FPGAs using Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL for space applications is advantageous.
Daily Activities:
  • Collaborate effectively with technicians, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and scientists in a team-oriented environment.
  • Test electronic boards in a laboratory setting utilizing multi-meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Engage in design reviews, both internal peer assessments and external evaluations with clients.
  • Adhere to division operating procedures to maintain high-quality standards in product delivery.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in FPGA Design and Simulation.
  • 0-3 years of experience in Electrical Circuit design and testing.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
