About Us:

The Southwest Research Institute's Department of Space Instruments & Payloads comprises a diverse group of engineers, scientists, program managers, and technicians dedicated to the design and development of instruments and avionics for various space missions. Our projects span from Lunar Lander initiatives to deep space explorations, commercial spacecraft, and ground-based observatories.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop digital and/or analog circuit boards tailored for space missions.
  • Engage in requirements development, block diagram creation, and schematic capture.
  • Perform or assist in the analysis of circuit boards, including parts stress derating, timing assessments, and worst-case circuit evaluations.
  • Generate documentation necessary for the fabrication, assembly, and testing of electronic boards.
  • Assist in integration and testing at higher assembly levels and through delivery, which may involve travel to client locations.
  • Experience in designing FPGAs using Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL for space applications is advantageous.
Daily Tasks:
  • Collaborate effectively with technicians, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and scientists.
  • Conduct testing of electronic boards in a laboratory environment utilizing multi-meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and various lab instruments.
  • Participate in design reviews, including both internal peer evaluations and external assessments with clients.
  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to division operating procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality products.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in FPGA Design and Simulation.
  • 0-3 years of experience in Electrical Circuit design and testing.
  • A valid and clear driver's license is mandatory.
