We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Career Advisor to join our team at James Madison University. As a Career Advisor, you will play a vital role in empowering students to design their career journey and support them through that journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive career advising to students and recent alumni, both individually and in groups, to help them explore careers and develop effective search strategies.
- Develop knowledge about assigned Career Communities and paths, and collaborate with the Employer Services team to meet the needs of all students at any point in their career journey.
- Facilitate career-related connections between faculty, employers, students, and alumni, and tailor career-related programs, services, and resources for assigned academic units.
- Educate yourself on how student identities impact career journeys and decision-making, and serve as an information resource on career-related topics for students, faculty, employers, and University Career Center colleagues.
Requirements:
- Masters degree
- Experience mentoring or advising on career-related goals
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport, engage, and communicate with multiple stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience working with students in a higher education or related setting in an advising, coaching, or counseling setting
- Experience creating and sustaining collaborative relationships with other departments or organizations
- Familiarity with student development or career decision-making framework or theories
