About the Position

James Madison University's Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education invites applications for a full-time teaching position in literacy education. This role is a one-year academic appointment with the possibility of renewal, offering a chance to make a lasting impact on the field of education.

Key Responsibilities

As a Literacy Education Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching four courses per semester (eight per year) within the field of literacy education. Your duties will include:

  • Supporting and advising undergraduate teacher candidates as they advance their knowledge and skills for teaching literacy.
  • Contributing to the Literacy Program by supporting department and college initiatives, attending meetings, and serving on committees.
  • Engaging in professional development opportunities to maintain knowledge about current perspectives and movements in literacy education.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in education or a related field.
  • Significant and substantive professional work experience within the past five years in K-12 schools.
  • A current Virginia teaching license.
  • Preferred: current teaching licensure endorsement or degree as a literacy or reading specialist.
