Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist providers with patient care, including rooming patients, obtaining vitals, and preparing patients for visits.
  • Facilitate communication between patients and providers, ensuring seamless care coordination.
  • Prepare patient charts for clinic visits, including updating demographic information and verifying patient data.
  • Process patient prescriptions in a timely manner, charting all prescriptions in the patient chart.
  • Forward incoming documents and patient records for physician signature prior to scanning into the patient chart.
  • Prepare charts for clinic visits and print clinic schedules.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
  • Minimum of 2 years medical assistant back office work experience or applicable work experience.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the healthcare field and orthopedics.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding patient care in clinics.
  • Knowledge of back office skills, including injections, suture and staple removal, DME orders, and Physical Therapy orders.
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.
  • Skill in follow-up with patients and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Skill and professionalism when interacting with providers, patients, family members, and the public.
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
  • Skill in problem-solving and time management.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image as a LOS employee.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated work assignments.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion when dealing with patients and family members.
Work Environment

Normal office environment with some travel within the community.

Physical and Mental Demands

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
