Job Summary

As a Cardiology Clinic Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our team of healthcare professionals in providing exceptional patient care. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting physicians with examinations and treatments, performing routine and non-routine tasks, and maintaining a smooth clinical office environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and non-routine care and education to patients, assisting physicians and charge nurses as needed; accurately document all care provided in patient charts
  • Triage patient calls and respond to all requests within 24 hours, notify physicians of urgent matters and all test results
  • Perform clinic duties in an efficient manner to maintain a smooth flow of clinic; prepare patients for examinations, tests, or procedures; conduct physician-ordered procedures and referrals, schedule outside facility testing and procedures
  • Work in conjunction with Authorization Specialists to ensure all procedures ordered and performed are pre-authorized for reimbursement
  • Follow all safety guidelines, adhere to universal blood and body fluid precautions; ensure work and clinical areas are kept clean and neat
  • Represent the company in a positive manner; adhere to Standards of Behavior; foster a positive patient service-oriented working environment and teamwork approach
  • Respect and maintain patient privacy at all times
  • Take direction for daily assignments from physician's RN or Nursing Manager

Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited certified medical assistant or accredited nursing program. Maintain valid Certification or Louisiana LPN license. A multi-tasked professional with at least 2 years' experience in performing clinical activities in a medical environment.

Knowledge and Skills
Basic medical office procedures and medical terminology with a concentration in cardiology; first aid measures; equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office; simple routine injections; universal blood and body fluid precautions; OSHA rules and regulations; various forms inherent to the profession; patient confidentiality; ability to stand for increments of 20 minutes; ability to assist in the lifting of patients from a sitting to a standing position or vice versa; ability to bend or stoop for IV initiation; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members; create a responsive, caring environment for patients; respond promptly to physicians' directions; maintain medical records in a concise and accurate manner; react quickly in emergency situations; recognize and prevent possible safety hazards; ensure proper maintenance of equipment; communicate clearly and facilitate patient education when warranted; act as an advocate and assist the physician in meeting the well-being needs of the cardiology patient; exercise good nursing judgment; perform functions that consistently fall within the legal boundaries of the profession
