Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Cardiology Specialists of Acadiana. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in the examination and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities

Assist physicians with examinations and treatments of patients
Perform routine and non-routine tasks to maintain a smooth clinical office environment
Take direction from physicians' RNs or Nursing Managers for daily assignments
Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner and escort them to examination rooms
Take vital signs and accurately enter results in patient charts
Review and update medical histories with each patient
Complete and update patient medical records accurately
Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or procedures
Maintain clean examination rooms prior to and during patient appointments
Perform clinic duties efficiently to maintain a smooth clinic flow
Notify physicians when patients are ready for examination
Perform procedures according to protocol as needed
Follow all physician orders for patient care and carry them out in a timely manner
Adhere to universal blood and body fluid precautions and OSHA guidelines
Return patient calls within 24 hours
Ensure physicians are notified of all pertinent test results
Refer patients to outside testing and appointments as instructed by physicians
Schedule hospital procedures as prescribed by physicians and notify Pre-Cert departments in advance
Direct patients to check-out counters upon completion of visits
Perform other services deemed reasonable by physicians or supervisors

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of accredited certified medical assistant or accredited nursing program
Maintain valid certification or registration
Multi-tasked professional with at least 2 years' experience in performing clinical activities in a medical environment
Basic medical office procedures and medical terminology with concentration in cardiology
First aid measures, equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office
Simple routine injections, universal blood and body fluid precautions, OSHA rules and regulations, and patient confidentiality/HIPAA regulations
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members
Create a responsive, caring environment for patients
Respond promptly to physicians' directions
Maintain medical records in a concise and accurate manner
React quickly in emergency situations
Recognize and prevent possible safety hazards
Ensure proper maintenance of equipment
Communicate clearly and facilitate patient education when warranted
Act as an advocate and assist physicians in meeting the well-being needs of cardiology patients
Exercise independent judgment
Perform functions that consistently fall within the legal boundaries of the profession
