Position Overview

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Commodity Buyer is responsible for procuring raw materials and managing inventories for designated commodities, ensuring effective production of finished goods while optimizing capital and achieving key manufacturing metrics, including safety, quality, cost, and service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Procure chemicals essential for tannery operations to support the production of high-quality leather.
  2. Manage inventory levels using the MRP system (Infor M3) to align with forecasts and safety stock requirements, ensuring timely manufacturing and customer satisfaction while minimizing total investment.
  3. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the chemical commodities sector, including major suppliers and key cost drivers.
  4. Collaborate with planning teams and other stakeholders to swiftly identify and resolve operational issues.
  5. Ensure adherence to material management programs and procurement procedures among business partners.
  6. Evaluate vendor performance and the effectiveness of purchasing processes, providing recommendations for improvements, including risk assessments and proactive supplier performance enhancement plans.
  7. Lead the development and implementation of the Company's pull inventory systems with suppliers.
  8. Oversee inventory assessments and adjustments, including cycle counting and year-end inventory processes.
  9. Continuously identify and pursue opportunities for improvement in processes and personnel related to this role.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

An Associate degree in Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, combined with 4 to 7 years of relevant experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Results-driven with a focus on superior execution.
  • Strong collaborative skills.
  • Prior experience in purchasing or production planning, preferably in leather manufacturing.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

APICS certification is preferred or must be obtained within 2 to 3 years of job acceptance. Certification as a purchasing manager is also preferred.
