Position Overview:
The Senior Commodity Buyer is responsible for procuring raw materials and overseeing inventory management for designated commodities, with a spending threshold of at least $40MM. This role is critical for ensuring the efficient production of scheduled finished goods while optimizing capital and achieving key manufacturing objectives, including safety, quality, cost, and service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure chemicals essential for tannery operations to facilitate the production of high-quality leather goods while meeting key manufacturing standards.
- Manage inventory levels through the MRP system (Infor M3), aligning with forecasts and safety stock requirements to fulfill manufacturing schedules and customer demands while minimizing overall investment.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the chemical commodities sector, including major suppliers and key cost drivers.
- Collaborate with planning teams and other stakeholders to swiftly identify and resolve operational challenges.
- Ensure adherence to material management protocols and procurement procedures among business partners.
- Evaluate vendor performance and the effectiveness of purchasing processes, recommending improvements and developing proactive supplier performance enhancement plans.
- Lead the development and implementation of the company's pull inventory systems in collaboration with suppliers.
- Provide guidance on inventory assessments and adjustments, including cycle counting and year-end inventory processes.
- Continuously identify and pursue opportunities for improvement in processes and personnel related to this role.

- Engage in process improvement initiatives both within and outside the department.
- Enhance technical knowledge through participation in educational workshops and training programs.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
An Associate degree in Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, coupled with 4 to 7 years of relevant experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other computer applications.
- Effective influencing and negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
- Results-oriented with a focus on superior execution.
- Collaborative team player.
- Prior experience in purchasing or production planning, preferably in the leather manufacturing sector.
Licenses and Certifications:
APICS certification is preferred or must be obtained within 2 to 3 years of employment. Certified Purchasing Manager designation is also preferred.
