Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Animal Care Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of all dogs at the shelter. Under the guidance of the Director of Animal Care, this position involves maintaining cleanliness in the kennels and providing essential feeding, socialization, and care for the dogs. Responsibilities may shift based on the shelter's needs, and a positive, professional demeanor is expected at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Feed, clean, walk, and socialize the dogs following established guidelines.
  • Regularly clean and sanitize all shelter areas as needed.
  • Monitor the animals for signs of illness or distress and report any concerns to the medical team.
  • Handle and restrain animals as necessary, especially those that are difficult to manage.
  • Assist in the release of animals to their owners as instructed by shelter personnel.
  • Support daily shelter operations, including restocking supplies, laundry, dishwashing, waste disposal, and general cleaning of all areas.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and relevant certifications.
  • Understanding of basic animal behavior and effective restraint techniques.
  • Familiarity with cleaning and disinfecting practices and the use of related equipment.
  • Ability to identify animals in distress.
  • Prepared to work in environments with potential exposure to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays.

Work Schedule: This position offers both part-time and full-time opportunities, with full-time roles including benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as paid time off and holidays after a specified period of employment.
