Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Volunteer Services Program Director to join our team. As a key member of our volunteer services department, you will be responsible for championing the Volunteer Services at Island Health, creating, initiating, and maintaining the volunteer program. This role will collaborate with Hospital leaders and staff to develop, implement, and match volunteers to opportunities throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain an attitude consistent with community focus, teamwork, communication, personal accountability, performance improvement, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to discern input from contacting recommendations, WSP, and disclosure statements.
  • Monitor the Volunteer Department budget in accordance with the Director's policies and procedures.
  • Work with all Island Health department managers to assess the placement of volunteers-when appropriate-and to assist other departments with daily operations, new programs, schedules, and concerns regarding a volunteer.
  • Regularly check in with volunteers regarding their placement or volunteer experience. Provide feedback or concern and resolution to department supervisor routinely.
  • Orient new volunteers and participate in public speaking to address new volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate records reflecting the scope and hours of each member of the volunteer corp.
  • In cooperation with department supervisors, evaluate each volunteer and the program annually.
  • In cooperation with the director, design, implement, and evaluate annual events to recognize Volunteer contributions.
  • Update volunteers in a timely fashion, conveying changes to policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to the Director of Marketing & Communications.
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications department to schedule recognition events. Participate in, or provide volunteers as needed to health screening events, health fairs, and other public community-based Island Health events.
  • Interact positively with Volunteers, Clients, Patients, Physicians, Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Peers, Co-Workers, and other departments.
  • Portray Island Health's CARES values and support the organization's philosophy of continuous quality improvement.
  • High level of interpersonal skills; must be able to relate to individuals of varying ages, backgrounds, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to complete performance reviews and other administrative paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all established Island Health policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Requirements
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in volunteer coordination required, with previous experience in a healthcare setting strongly preferred. Previous experience working in a supervisory/managerial level encouraged.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, Communication, Business, or Healthcare Administration required; comparable work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Work Environment

The employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, and communicable diseases as related to a healthcare environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to talk and have hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone. The employee is often required to sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arm. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus sufficient to operate computer systems.

Estimated Salary

$38.93 per hour
