Physical Therapy Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Physical/Occupational Therapy Aide to join our team at Island Health. The successful candidate will assist therapists in the Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy (POST) departments, focusing on preparing patients and equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and performing routine clerical tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Assist therapists with patient care, prepare patients for treatment, and help with taking patients off modalities.
- Support therapists with outpatient/inpatient treatments under direct supervision.
- Work under the direct clinical direction of therapists and make judgments to ensure patient safety.
- Communicate effectively with patients, family members, staff from other disciplines, and staff within the department.
- Maintain the POST work area in a clean, orderly, and well-stocked fashion.
- Perform clerical tasks and assist with reception duties as needed.
- Accurately document patient information when assisting with DME products.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support the POST philosophy of performance improvement.
- Interact positively with administration, directors, managers, supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients, and visitors.
- Meet regular attendance standards and maintain average sick leave utilization levels.
- Participate in in-services or continuing educational meetings concerning therapy services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director.
- Previous experience in an outpatient rehab or acute care setting is strongly preferred.
- Active BLS Certification is required.
The work of this position is performed inside, exposing the employee to indoor environmental conditions. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a healthcare environment.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods, push, pull, and reach. Occasional bending, sitting, stooping, and stretching are also required. The employee will need full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, and should have hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and medical equipment.
