Job Summary:

The Evening Security Guard is a key member of the New London Public Schools team, responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment at the district's adult education site during evening hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Monitoring: Oversee the security of the building by monitoring all entrances and exits, ensuring that only authorized individuals enter the facility.
  • Patrols: Conduct regular patrols of the interior and exterior of the premises to deter and detect any unusual or suspicious activities.
  • Incident Response: Respond promptly to any incidents, emergencies, or security breaches, and take appropriate action to resolve the situation while ensuring the safety of all individuals on-site.
  • Visible Presence: Maintain a visible presence in the building to deter potential security threats and to provide a sense of safety and security to staff, students, and visitors.
  • Policy Enforcement: Assist in enforcing building policies and procedures, including checking identification, managing access control, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Support to Staff and Students: Provide assistance and support to staff, students, and visitors as needed, including offering directions, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Documentation: Keep detailed logs of any incidents, security breaches, or unusual activities that occur during the shift, and report these to the appropriate authorities.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong observational skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, and effective communication skills.
  • Certifications: Security guard certification or license, as required by state law preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods; ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Availability: Must be available to work evening hours, including some weekends as needed.

Working Conditions:

This position requires working indoors and outdoors, often in a standing or walking position for the majority of the shift. The Evening Security Guard must be prepared to respond to emergencies and handle potentially stressful situations.
