Position Overview:

BDI is seeking a full-time Senior Research Manager (SRM) to collaborate closely with the Chief Research Officer in overseeing BDI's extensive research portfolio. This role is crucial for providing actionable data, research, and insights that empower local leaders in their efforts to mitigate political violence.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of 4-6 direct reports, including project managers and senior research specialists.
- Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting, training, and evaluating research staff performance and development goals.
- Enhancing staff capabilities in research methodologies.
- Assisting project managers in implementing best practices for their teams.
- Offering technical guidance to senior research specialists for data tools and visualizations.

Partnership Development:
- Cultivate and maintain essential relationships with partners and experts on collaborative projects.
- Deliver presentations and written communications to stakeholders as needed.

Project Management:
- Oversee the execution of multiple research initiatives concurrently, such as:
- Developing early warning systems.
- Analyzing threats and harassment against local officials.
- Managing the political violence data and analysis library.
- Ensure timely completion of projects in a dynamic environment, adapting to shifting priorities and resources.

Research & Analysis:
- Manage the creation of data, research, and content for various publications and presentations.
- Responsibilities may include:
- Drafting and editing reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Supporting the Chief Research Officer in maintaining data integrity through regular audits and identifying research gaps.
- Enable the research team to provide real-time support across BDI initiatives.
- Ensure high-quality data design and communication for various research projects.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Proven management skills with experience in mentoring and developing staff.
- Strong organizational abilities with a history of managing multiple projects effectively.
- Extensive experience (7-10 years) in qualitative and quantitative research methods, particularly in political violence and conflict analysis.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools, including Tableau.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus under pressure.
- Commitment to civil society efforts addressing political violence across diverse sectors.

Preferred:
- Advanced experience with data analysis tools.
- Experience in remote team management and data project oversight using programming languages.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
